  • H2XP is working on a unique project in the province of Brabant: the construction of a 70 MW hydrogen installation as part of an energy hub in the rural area of the municipality of Woensdrecht. The hydrogen installation replaces an intensive pig farm, which is closing due to excessive nitrogen emissions on the surrounding nature.

The company’s own solar parks, located around the hydrogen installation, with an installed capacity of over 100 MWp, are part of the energy hub and are being integrated into a Smart Grid, which also includes 2 x 40 MVA existing grid connections. The green energy from the solar parks is supplemented with contracted wind energy.

The green hydrogen will be supplied directly to the industry in Vlissingen, Moerdijk or Antwerp via the very nearby backbone of HyNetwork Services. The project also offers opportunities for innovative connections with other companies in the rural area. For example, research is being conducted into whether the oxygen, which is released as a by-product during the electrolysis of water, can be used to make the nearby sewage treatment plant (RWZI Bath) more sustainable. This leads to a double benefit: not only the production of green hydrogen, but also the sustainability of essential infrastructure in the region. And farmers may want to use green hydrogen in their business operations in the future, for example by using hydrogen-powered tractors.
